What is Subud?
Susila Budhi DharmaSubud is a spiritual association founded by Muhammad Subuh Sumohadiwidjojo, known as Bapak. The name Subud is an abbreviation of three Sanskrit words: Susila, Budhi, and Dharma. Together they express the meaning that the human soul can follow the will of God through the practice of the latihan kejiwaan.
The World Subud Association (WSA) is the international governing body of Subud, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization with members in over 54 countries.
Subud Around the World
Connecting members worldwide through the latihan kejiwaan
Our Founder
Muhammad Subuh Sumohadiwidjojo, known as Bapak, first received the latihan kejiwaan in 1925 in Java, Indonesia. For many years, he was the only person to receive this contact, but in 1932, he began to share it with others. By the mid-1950s, the latihan had spread beyond Indonesia to Europe, the Americas, and eventually worldwide.
Bapak dedicated his life to sharing the latihan kejiwaan and providing guidance to Subud members around the world until his passing in 1987.
